Cheeky Angel
On April 23, we flew to Costa Rica, to walk across the border, knowing we may not be received into Nicaragua. That's a different story. Suffice it to say that I've never walked across a border.
Our ride dropped us off at immigration in Costa Rica and said goodbye. We walked in and out of dozens of semi-trucks as we dragged our roller bags through dirt and rugged pavement.
We had been praying that the Lord would go before us and keep us safe and across the border.
My friend (name held) stepped up to the immigration window in Nicaragua and began the process of being received into the country and stamped in his passport. It was going slow with several questions, and then the officer would stop and type into the computer.
I was beginning to wonder if things were going sideways. I decided to begin praying for a favor. I could see through the glass windows into Nicaragua when who was standing on the Nicaragua land? My smiling angel.
I wasn't surprised. I was more thankful. Three things occurred.
1. Internally, I began to smile because...
2. I knew we were in, and...
3. What a cheeky angel!
Shortly after, another officer walked by saying something funny in Spanish, which cracked up our officer. It may have been a joke about the gringos but it made a way for us to step into a country we have fallen in love with.
Remember, angels didn't disappear when Christ came to earth. There are created beings we generally don't see but they are there and help our faith leap past moments of fear and trepidation.
