Politics aside, I am finding a new breed of leadership rising in our world. It's different than a hierarchical leader who demands. As Jesus states in Mark, “You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentiles domineer over them; and their people in high position exercise authority over them. But it is not this way among you; rather, whoever wants to become prominent among you shall be your servant; and whoever wants to be first among you shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:42-45 NASB)
I'm discovering a new type that I refer to as facilitators. They are focusing more on releasing and equipping than domineering.
What is your perspective on these two types: domineering leader & servant facilitator?
What can happen if facilitators truly equip the body?
NOTE: The joy of having a community is to meet new people, connect on topics, and grow close to Jesus. I hope you will join the conversation. Feel free to ask questions and comment.

Amen. The Spirit seems to be saying, “Enough is enough.” 1 Corinthians 11:1 has been twisted into “follow my vision” or anointing or interpretive lens. Jesus is raising up leaders who love to follow Him more than they love to be followed.
Chris, great to hear from you. It's a beautiful thing to know how there is a drastic and much need change of hearing the Spirit say, enough is enough. The kingdom rides on!
Brian, interestingly, yesterday I came across a note I made 2-3 years ago of concepts I've shared for several years. It deals with 2 types of leadership.
Generals, a military concept (hierarchical)
- Big army
- Maximum control
- Power
Fathers, a relational concept (paternal)
- Establish families (prepare sons and daughters for release into success and maturity)
- Limited control
- Influence
1 Cor 4:15 reminds us that we need fathers.
Ephesians 4:12-13 reminds us that the purpose of leadership is serving, equipping and facilitating.
The domineering/generals vs servant/fathers certainly needs to be understood and equipping facilitators need to rise.
Earl, so true. Love the language of generals vs fathers. I believe it was Dave Crone, who was the key leader at The Mission here in Vacaville that said, servant fathers raise sons to be fathers not slaves.
Just a little word-smithing. Instead of control, I would say influence - or sphere of influence. As a young captain, and again as a seasoned major, I had much more control over execution of influence, than a general ever had. His word was stronger than mine, but not his reach or immediate impact. As a father, our words are huge to our children. It was my goal to influence and direct our daughters, until they were ready to make their own decisions. I failed in my explanation and demonstration of how my influence was in submission to our Great Father. PLEASE- this is not meant to be critical; rather spoken (typed) to make the concept clearer in my pea brain.
This is pretty timely as I have begun a God-led study of Jesus' kingship. Today I studied Isa. 53 to learn more about His servant-based leadership/kingship. I've been under a domineering pastor in the past so any hint of control, domination, etc. is very triggering for me. I say a big YES to facilitating, releasing, and equipping. Thanks for the conversation Byron!
I love this conversation. I believe in this time in the new era new possibilities of Servant Leadership/Facilitaing are being opened up, explored and implemented in beautiful ways. It gives me so much hope for the generations to come and what is possible.

Hi Mike, I'm not sure where the reference for the word control is from? It's not in the short post. Can you give reference? Thanks.
Byron - it's in the comment above made by Earl Rutledge. Peace.
Ahhh...yes.

Candy, we look forward to learning more about your study and what you discover on this.

Sharon, hope is a powerful weapon against so many struggles in life. To see this change happening in our lifetime is very cool!
